Provide First Aid in Remote Situation
This course provides the knowledge and skills to perform first aid in remote situations where medical attention, help or assistance is delayed and the First Aider may be required to attend to an injured and/or ill person for a longer time period due to geographical barriers to evacuation such as isolated or outback location, rough terrain or inclement weather.
It will give students the skills and knowledge required to provide First Aid response; life support; management of person(s), the incident and other First Aiders in remote situations until handed over to medical or other assistance.
How long does it run for?
2 Days (face to face).
What will I learn?
The particular topics covered by the course include:
Legal and other issues
Basic Life Support - DRSABCD
CPR and AED
Allergic reaction/ Anaphylaxis
Cold and crush injuries
Bleeding/ haemorrhage and basic wound care
Burns and scalds
Dehydration & extremes of heat and cold
Poisons & Toxic substance
Bites and stings
Do I need to have completed previous training?
There are no prerequisites for this unit.
How do I keep my qualifications current?
Current industry standards state this course must be updated every 3 years with the CPR component being updated every 12 months.
Students will be assessed through the demonstration of practical skills, participation in role plays, analysis of case studies and a written quiz.
On successful completion of this course, students will be issued with a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for HLTAID005 Provide First Aid in Remote Situation.
